LexisNexis – Giving Back by Taking Back

LexisNexis Employees Celebrate Spirit Week

Ponte Vedra based local office of LexisNexis celebrated their 2nd annual Spirit Week during the week of September 20.  Their theme was Taking Back What is Ours with daily focus areas that addressed how that theme applied to their customers, employees and community.

Thursday was Corporate Responsibility Day – a day that this small office participated in three major community service projects led by Lisa-Anne Mattiocco, Support Generalist.

Pet Food Drive

In challenging economic times pets are often forgotten.  This team rallied to the cause and organized a pet food drive to benefit First Coast No More Homeless Pets.  They collected

  • 230 pounds of dry food
  • 56 cans of wet food and
  • $60 in donations

Lisa would encourage other businesses that may not have a lot of employee time to contribute to a service project that this was an easy way to do a small thing that makes a big difference.

Clearing Trails

One team mobilized to an environmental project with the North Florida Land Trust. NFLT is currently working to create a northern access point to the Guana Preserve by utilizing the Old Oar House Restaurant property.

They braved the heat and insects to help clear the path along the back trail by removing as much air potato, weeds and litter as possible so that the city could come and spray the trails to prevent the air potato from taking over.

Air Potato

Who knew these pesky non-native vines can grow up to 70 feet high and 6 feet under ground and can even kill oak trees if not managed! Lisa said the team was excited to be a part of making this beautiful location a place for Jacksonville residents to enjoy kayaking, nature walks and to learn more about the history of the land.

Employees Create Cards for Children's Hospital Patients

The final project was done on-site using our Cards of Caring program.  The team exercised their creative energies and made beautiful cards that are being delivered to a local children’s hospital.  They had fun making the cards and enjoyed the great feeling of knowing they will bring smiles and some cheer to kids who are going through a difficult time.

We think it’s pretty great to have local companies like LexisNexis who take the time to do GOOD in our community!
