WJCT radio is the community supported public broadcasting station for the First Coast area. WJCT’s Radio Reading Service has provided years of service that has enriched the lives of visually impaired community members. This invaluable service enables visually impaired citizens of the NE Florida and SE Georgia communities to keep up with current news, information and entertainment. A complimentary radio receiver providing a closed-circuit station broadcasting live readings, is available to eligible applicants.
The Radio Readers group is composed of 54 men and women who spend two or more hours a week performing live readings of local and national newspapers, magazines, and books to those who can no longer enjoy the simple luxury of reading. Once again, WJCT and its volunteers continues to excel in public broadcasting through offering our community free programs such as The Radio Reading Service.
Since 1993, the Radio Readers’ have been a successful volunteer driven effort, giving a voice to the printed word for visually impaired community members. This is a 24-hour service in which volunteers have given an estimated 3,276 hours of their time, because they know that literacy matters.
