Bringing Joy Through Music – Meet Giles Mealor

MealorGiles Mealor has been a volunteer with Heartland Hospice for over three years where he plays the clarinet for individuals living in nursing homes and hospice care facilities. Giles has touched the lives of people in these homes throughout Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Palatka.

26330128As a performer, Giles brings joy to sad hearts and rekindles the memories of patients with lovely music from times gone by. If it is a holiday, Giles makes it extra special, often using his own personal resources. For one Valentine’s Day, he dressed in a tuxedo and purchased two dozen roses to give out to all the women patients in attendance – and he didn’t hesitate to perform on Christmas day. He never forgets the veterans and always presents them with a small flag and a special song just for them.

As a recently-retired employee of PGA TOUR Entertainment, Giles has been recognized for the past two years by the PGA TOUR Commissioner for donating the most hours as a PLAYERS Championship Ambassador.

For his outstanding volunteering efforts, Giles is being presented the HandsOn Art of Caring Award at Celebrate!GOOD 2014.
