Mayo Clinic Volunteers for a Healthier Community

Mayo ALS WalkThe Mayo Clinic of Jacksonville is a huge supporter of Sulzbacher Center’s medical clinic, Beaches Community Healthcare. Mayo Clinic Jacksonville’s relationship with Sulzbacher Center began in 2012 and has steadily grown ever since.

Once a month, Mayo Clinic doctors host a free evening clinic for working, uninsured individuals living near the beach. Dr. Floyd Willis and Dr. Annellys Hernandez lead the volunteer effort and coordinate volunteers to work the evening clinics.

At these evening clinics, family practice doctors provide check-ups, prescriptions and minor procedures for patients. The Psychology Department of Mayo Clinic also participates by providing a psychiatrist for individual counseling one afternoon a month in the Beaches Behavioral Health Clinic.

Starting in January 2014, doctors training in family practice medicine now complete residency rotations at Sulzbacher’s downtown medical clinic, ensuring people in need receive quality health care. These doctors have already donated more than 200 hours of their time, valued at $40,000, to uninsured residents of Jacksonville Beach who would not otherwise receive the care they need.

Mayo Clinic Jacksonville will receive the HandsOn Business Award at Celebrate!GOOD 2014 for devoting their time to make our community a healthier place to live.
