JCP Cares was founded by Kathy Bravo in 2007 in an effort to unite her community in an impactful way. Through this effort, neighbors have come together to lend their time, talent and treasure to help others in need.
What began with a few neighbors engaged in community service grew to more than 150 regular volunteers. The group works to plan, implement, collect and deliver goods and services to many nonprofits, families and animals in our community.
JCP Cares has partnered with a variety of organizations, including churches, schools and businesses to complete volunteer activities. They’ve also enlisted the help of local dry cleaners, gas stations and county libraries to support their projects.
The group divides their efforts into quarterly projects that focus on animals and environment, seniors and medical, children and homeless and abused. In November they lead a food drive and in December, a Giving Tree project. When JCP Cares cannot meet a need, they work to find other groups and organizations that can. Through these efforts, volunteers have contributed more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service and more than $500,000 of monetary contributions. For their outstanding effort to mobilize volunteers to do good in the community, JCP Cares will be presented with the HandsOn Planned Acts of Kindness Award at Celebrate!GOOD 2014.
