Throughout the years, the United States Navy has embraced different mottoes and taglines, the current being ‘America’s Navy, A Global Force for Good,’ a sentiment the leadership at Naval Air Station Jacksonville firmly believes in and applies both at home and abroad. Captain Roy Undersander and the entire leadership team at NAS Jacksonville recognize every sailor is motivated to serve for different reasons, but in the heart of every sailor is the desire to serve their country and community.
In the past year alone, more than 600 volunteers completed nearly 12,000 hours of volunteer service to their community through command and base sponsored volunteer activities. These activities have touched numerous organizations in the Jacksonville community, including U.S. Green Building Council Northeast Florida Chapter, Country Day Elementary, Habitat for Humanity, Sulzbacher Center, Boy Scouts, YMCA of Florida First Coast, Athletes Helping Kids, Team NAVY JAX, Operation Homefront of Florida, Cub Scouts from Great Muskogee District and many more.
As a result of their efforts, NAS Jacksonville has cultivated a culture of service, built a mutual respect with the City of Jacksonville, and received multiple Navy-wide recognitions, including 2nd place for Environmental Stewardship Flagship and 3rd place for Project Good Neighbor Flagship.
NAS Jacksonville is the 2014 recipient of the HandsOn Service in Uniform Award that will be presented at Celebrate!GOOD 2014.
