Friends With a Purpose was founded as a way for three recent high school graduates with special needs to engage with and give back to the community. Every Tuesday, this group volunteers four hours of their time at the Sulzbacher Center to clean the children’s building from top to bottom. The group spends the morning dusting, organizing books and toys and cleaning all the tables and chairs.
After they have finished cleaning, Friends With a Purpose heads to the kitchen to help serve lunch to all of the residents. Thanks to this dedicated group of volunteers, the center’s children are able to come home to a clean, organized building and all residents and community members in need are given access to a meal.
The friends take great pride in helping others and have made many friends with staff and volunteers working at the center.
It is estimated that the group has donated over 700 hours and served well over 75,000 meals since they began volunteering. Friends With a Purpose will receive the HandsOn Willing and Able Award at Celebrate!GOOD 2014.
